VIDEO-INAUGURATES I T CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN MONGOLIA
The Prime Minister
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated ‘A.B. Vajpayee Centre for
Excellence in Information & Communication Technology’, Ulaanbaatar,
Mongolia, with the Prime Minister of Mongolia through video conferencing
facility, here today.
Following is the
text of Prime Minister’s remarks on the occasion:
"Good afternoon,
Mr Prime Minister, I am very happy to talk to you on this occasion.
Today, we have a new and shining symbol of our bilateral cooperation.
Relations between
our two countries have a strong historical and cultural base.
Our ties have been strengthened in contemporary times. During
the visit last year of your President, we had the opportunity
to identify a number of new areas of cooperation.
India has been
proud to participate in Mongolia’s human resource development
through our ITEC and other programmes. We believe that human resource
development is of critical importance in the process of economic
development.
I am particularly
happy that we are inaugurating a Centre for Information and Communication
Technology. India places particular emphasis on the global information
revolution. Developing countries must ensure that they are part
of this revolutionary change. I am glad that India’s cooperation
with Mongolia will now also cover the crucial "knowledge"
sector. The 5 Community Information Centres will enable people
in remote areas to be connected with the rest of the world.
Excellency, India
and Mongolia are two democracies sharing similar aspirations including
the economic progress and prosperity of our people. Nations such
as ours have united in the fight against international terrorism.
Terrorism does not respect national boundaries and specially targets
open, transparent societies. We must remain united in our struggle
against this global menace.
Excellency, I extend
a warm invitation to you to visit India. We look forward to working
closely with you for the further strengthening and diversification
of our relations in the years ahead.
Thank you."
