PENDENCIES
Out of 21 High Courts
in the country, 6 High Courts have the largest pending cases.
At present, there are more than 36 lakh pending cases in all the
High Courts. Of these, the High Courts of Allahabad, Kerala, Madras,
Bombay, Calcutta and Punjab and Haryana have 35,57,637 cases pending
as on date.
The cases pending before the Allahabad
High Court are 8,67,184 followed by the Kerala High Court 4,05,469,
the Madras High Court 3,59,062, the Bombay High Court, 2,93,534,
the Calcutta High Court 2,82,808 and the Punjab and Haryana High
Court 2,33,370.
Of the total 35,57,637 cases pending
in the six High Courts alone, 5,84,508 cases are more than ten
years old. These are 2,88,472 cases in the Allahabad High Court
followed by 1,27,190 cases in the Calcutta High Court, 49,951
cases in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, 35,865 cases in the
Delhi High Court and 28,131 cases in the Bombay High Court.
