ROMELT PIG IRON PLANT

National
Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), a public sector undertaking
under the Ministry of Steel is setting up a commercial pig iron
plant with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per annum at Nagarnar,
in Bastar District of Chhatisgarh with Russian Romelt technology.
The plant is likely to be commission by October, 2004. The estimated
cost of the plant is Rs. 298.68 crore. An amount of Rs. 43.15
crore has been allocated by NMDC during 2002-03 for the project.

was given by the Minister for Steel Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
