COMMUNAL HARMONY AND FLAG DAY OBSERVED TODAY


The National Foundation for Communal Harmony is observing Flag Day today. To symbolize this, a group of children accompanied by officers from the NFCH called on the Deputy Prime Minister, Shri L.K. Advani at his North-Block office and pinned Flags on the occasion. The six children who met Shri Advani included Km. Malika Khatoon and Shri Prithi Raj Das from Assam; Km. Lamhoichang and Km. Damngaihzen from Manipur; and Sh. Neelesh and Km. Nikita Ashok Killekar from Karnataka. These children are getting rehabilitation assistance from the NFCH.

The Communal Harmony campaign and Fund Raising week had begun from the 19th of this Month. Funds are raised for the Rehabilitation of Child Victims of Communal, Ethnic, Caste or Terrorist Violence and for Promotion of Communal Harmony, National Integration and Fraternity.

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony, an autonomous body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is looking after the child victims of communal, caste, ethnic riots or terrorist violence. The NFCH set up in 1992 has so far assisted nearly 2600 children and disbursed a sum of Rs.5. Crores for their assistance. Each child is extended financial assistance ranging from Rs.650/- to Rs.600/- per month upto the age of 18 years which may be extended upto 21 years. The Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Home Minister is the Chairman of the Governing Council which consists of 24 other members including the Minister of Human Resource Development, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and non-officials, representing media, art, social work, literature and industry.

The group of children also pinned flags on the President, Vice-President and Prime Minister on this occasion.
