POWER PURCHASED BY INDIA FROM NEPAL

LOK SABHA

The power exchange between India and Nepal, at present, is of the order of about 100 MW with Nepal as net importer of power from India. However, with the commissioning of the Kaligandaki project (144 MW), Nepal has offered to sell some surplus power to India. The Power Trading Corporation which has been appointed as nodal agency on Indian side is interacting with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to explore the possibility of purchase of surplus power on mutually acceptable terms.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Power, Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, in a written reply to a question by Shri Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, in the Lok Sabha today.
