MRS. V. VISWANATHAN TAKES OVER AS FINANCIAL COMMISSIONER RAILWAYS
SHE BECOMES THE FIRST EVER LADY
MEMBER OF RAILWAY BOARD
Mrs. V. Viswanathan,
Additional Member (Finance) in the Railway Board has taken over
as the new Financial Commissioner, Railways. She assumed the new
charge yesterday. She would be ex-officio Secretary to the Government
of India. Mrs. Viswanathan belongs to 1968 batch of Indian Railway
Accounts Service (IRAS). She also has the distinction of becoming
the first lady ever to be appointed as Member in the Railway Board.
During her long career
with the Railways, Mrs. Viswanathan held several positions at
Divisional and Zonal Railways. She became the first lady Divisional
Railway Manager in the history of Indian Railways when she served
the Mysore Division from 1995-97. The Division received the Overall
Efficiency Runner Shield during her stewardaship. She also held
the post of Officer on Special Duty of South Western Railway,
Bangalore from February’02 to May’02. She also holds the distinction
of being the first lady Additional General Manager, first lady
OSD and first lady Additional Member of the Board.
A post graduate in
English she holds a Masters Diploma in Public Administration and
ICWA (Inter). She has visited UK and USA on official assignments.
