KARNATAKA GETS RS.
157.68 LAKH FOR RURAL DRINKING WATER
The Ministry of Rural
Development has released Rs. 157.68 lakh to Karnataka as additional
Central assistance to meet the rural drinking water supply requirements.
This assistance is provided out of ‘Central Rural Water Supply
Outlay’, five percent of which has been earmarked for contingencies
arising due to natural calamities/disaster. The State government
has to utilize these funds for retrieval of 1856 existing bore
wells.
The Ministry has
also released Rs. 49.055 lakh under Integrated Wasteland Development
Programme (Employment Assurance Scheme – Watershed Component)
to the Gadag district of the State during 2002-03. These funds
are for the completion of ongoing watershed projects, taken up
prior to April 1st 1999. The State government has to
release its share to the district, within a fortnight of the date
of release of the Central Assistance.
