NHPC CELEBRATES 27TH RAISING DAY


Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, Minister of State for Power, has said that Government is giving top priority to the development of power sector, particularly, hydel power. The Minister was speaking at the 27th Raising Day of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) at Faridabad today. As a part of the power sector reforms, Government has introduced electricity Bill-2001. The Minister said that Hydroelectric Projects are pollution free and have a long life span and require minimum operational and maintenance expenses. India Sixth in the world generation of electricity which is at present to the tune of 600 billion units annually.

Speaking on the occasion, Power Secretary, Shri R.V.Shahi, said that the Ministry of Power has decided to give full budgetary support to NHPC to implement the Projects identified for completion during the Tenth Plan period. He also stressed the need for quality and timely investigation of projects. Shri Yogendra Prasad, CMD, NHPC also spoke on the occasion.
