PM CONDOLES THE DEATH OF KAIFI AZMI

The Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has expressed profound grief over the death of eminent and progressive Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi.

In his condolence message the Prime Minister said that Kaifi Azmi’s death is a severe blow to Urdu literature. He was not just a progressive writer but also a peoples’ poet. Concerns for the welfare of the weaker sections of the society always remained at the core of his writings. He highlighted miseries and sufferings of the downtrodden and strove for their upliftment. His writings displayed a rare combination of deep-rooted social commitment and inherent poetic suppleness of Urdu language. Kaifi Azmi was the flag-bearer of socialist and secular values. His literary contribution will continue to inspire the future generations, Shri Vajpayee added.
