DRDO AWARDS ANNOUNCED


The Government has announced Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Awards for the year 2001. The Silicon Trophy for the best systems laboratory will be given to the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bangalore. The ADE is responsible for the successful development of the state-of-the-art digital system for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

The Titanium Trophy for the best science laboratory will go to the Interim Test Range (ITR), Balasore. The ITR provides the essential facilities and skilled services for the test and evaluation of guided missiles, flight vehicles and projectiles during their developmental phase.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Radar technologies and his continuous support and guidance to DRDO, the Services and Ministry of Defence, the Life Time Achievement Award 2001 will be conferred on Dr. Ramadas P Shenoy. A microwave engineer – Dr. Shenoy’s personal achievements in the field of electronics engineering span a wide area of electronic systems ranging from radars, electronic warfare to communications and secrecy systems. Dr. Shenoy has been previously associated with Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, Hyderabad and Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, Bangalore.

The Technology Leadership Award will be conferred on Dr. Kota Harinarayana for his outstanding contribution in aerospace technologies. Dr. Kota is the programme Director of LCA.

The Agni Award for Excellence in Self Reliance goes to Shri CGS Sarma & team; Shri KVSS Prasad Rao & team; Shri S Neelakantan & team; Shri VL Narasimhan & team and Shri VS Hashilkar & team.

The Award Performance Excellence goes to Shri PK Venkatachalam & team.

The Defence Technology Absorption Award goes to Messrs Astra Microwaves Products Ltd, Secunderabad and MTR Foods Ltd, Bangalore.

The Academic Excellence Award will be conferred on Prof GR Nagabhushana and Prof KP Rao.

The Defence Technology Spin Off Award goes to the Defence Research & Development Establishment, Gwalior for their valuable contribution in successful development and production of Slow Release Insecticidal Paint.

The Scientist of the Year Award goes to Dr. HV Batra, Shri Kambham Santeppa, Shri MB Verma, Smt Malathi Limaye, Shri S Varadarajan, Shri Subramanian Sivaraman, Shri Suresh Chandra, Shri TS Raghavan, Shri VL Narasimha Rao and Shri V Vasudeva Murthy.

The Awards will be presented by the Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee here tomorrow.
