STANDING LABOUR COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS FOUR MAJOR LABOUR ISSUES
AT ITS 38TH SESSION
The
38th Session of the Standing Labour Committee, SLC,
will be inaugurated by the Labour Minister Shri Sharad Yadav in
New Delhi on May 10, 2000. It is the second highest tripartite
body at the national level to help in evolving policies on labour
issue. The SLC also decides the agenda for the Indian Labour Conference
(ILC), the highest tripartite form in the field of labour. It
is for the first time that suggestions were invited for the agenda
issues for the ILC from Central trade unions and Employers' Organisations.
Out of 9 suggested issues, 4 topics
viz. Skill Building and Training of Workers to generate employment,
Industrial Sickness, Social Security in the Unorganised Sector
and Government Policy on Disinvestment would be considered by
the SLC. The SLC will after a day long deliberations will select
two out of the four issues for the consideration of Indian Labour
congress to be held shortly.
The Standing Labour
Committee meeting will be attended by the representatives of the
various Central Ministries/Departments, all State Governments
and Union Territories, and Employers' organisations and Central
Trade Unions.
