MEETING TO CHALK-OUT ROAD MAP FOR INDIA'S BID FOR 2012 OLYMPICS
Minister for Youth Affairs
and Sports, Sushree Uma Bharti today met the President of Indian
Olympic Association (IOA), Shri Suresh Kalmadi and Secretary General,
IOA, Shri Randhir Singh to discuss the modalities and necessary
steps to be taken for India to bid for the 2012 Olympics. In the
meeting, IOA representatives fully endorsed the recent announcement
made by the Minister to bid for 2012 Olympics. They submitted
proposals for holding the postponed First Afro-Asian Games from
24th October to 1st November, 2003 and to
make a bid for 2010 Commonwealth Games, which is required to be
submitted by 2003, as preparatory steps for the Olympic Games.
IOA representatives informed that they have obtained the approval
of ANOCA & OCA for the dates for Afro-Asian Games. The IOA
has agreed to submit a formal proposal within a week, outlining
the steps required and the time-table for making their bid for
the 2012 Olympic Games. The IOA representatives rated the chances
of India’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games as very good.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Director General, Sports
Authority of India were also present in the meeting.
