Coal India Limited (CIL) and
its subsidiaries undertake community development works in Coal
producing States. CIL and Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) have
undertaken many community development works in the States of Bihar,
Jharkhand and Orissa.
The community development
work activities undertaken by CIL And BCCL include provision of
handpumps constructions/renovation of wells/ponds; construction
and repairs of rural link roads, culverts, bus stand, community
centre, yatri shed; construction and repair/extension of educational
buildings and provision of books and other reading materials;
organizing health camps such as eye, diabetic, dental; promoting
self employment and training schemes like tailoring, pattal making,
driving; helping sports and cultural programmes; afforestation
programme, distribution and plantation of seedlings etc.
The amount spent on community
development works during 2000-01 in the State of Jharkhand is
Rs. 119.48 lakhs on the districts of Dhanbad, Deoghar, Godda,
Bokaro, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Giridh and Palamu. The amount spent
in the State of Orissa is Rs. 369.58 lakhs on the districts of
Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul and Sambalpur. The above was informed
in a written reply by Minister of State for Coal and Mines Shri
Ravi Shankar Prasad today in Rajya Sabha.
