SHRI PRAMOD MAHAJAN INAUGURATES VIDEO CONFERENCING FACILITY FOR SIX DISTRICTS IN ORISSA


Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Communications&IT, Shri Pramod Mahajan today inaugurated Video conferencing facilities for six districts in Orissa. The inauguration was done by providing video conferencing link from Bhubaneswar from where the Chief Minister of Orissa, Shri Navin Patnaik participated. Speaking at the function, Shri Pramod Mahajan said that all efforts would be made to facilitate speedy development of IT facilitating tools for the State of Orissa. Top priority would be given to facilitate e-governance within the State by providing appropriate e-governance tools and infrastructure. The Minister, during the course of Address, congratulated the people of Orissa for joining the IT Revolution in the country. The Chief Minister of Orissa Shri Navin Patnaik said that this facility would help in combating problems concerning the people on a variety of socio-economic issues.

Video Conferencing Facility is a part of the project of Department of Information Technology for providing video conferencing facility for six districts of Orissa and State Secretariat at Bhubaneswar at a total cost of Rs.1.5 crores. The locations where video conferencing facility has been provided under this project are: State Secretariat, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balangir, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Koraput and Sambalpur

High speed Internet access has also been made available at all these locations using SCPC DAMA VSATs technology. The project has been implemented by National Informatics Centre as a part of Deptt. of IT’s project on strengthening communication and networking facilities in ten States which are lagging behind in Information Technology.
