RECORDING OF STATEMENTS BEFORE MAGISTRATE
The Law Commission
has recommended recording of statements of important witnesses
in the presence of a Magistrate.
The Report of
the Law Commission after it is laid in the Parliament, would be
processed in consultation with State Governments as the Criminal
Law and Criminal Procedure are on the concurrent list of the Seventh
Schedule to the Constitution of India. It is, however, not feasible
to fix any timeframe for this.
This information
was given by the Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs,
Shri Arun Jaitley in a written reply to a question from Shri Amar
Singh in the Rajya Sabha today.
