SHELF LIFE OF RIFAMPICIN CAPSULES EXTENDED

The shelf life of Rifampicin Capsules has been extended to 36 months in India. This was done after the stability studies conducted at Central Indian Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, Ghaziabad. Accordingly entry no. 75 pertaining to shelf life of Rifampicin Capsules under Schedule P has been amended to read as 36 months. Schedule P to the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules prescribe life period of drugs (shelf life), the period upto which the drug will remain stable under the proper storage conditions from the date of manufacture. The shelf life of Rifampicin Capsules under this Schedule was prescribed as 24 months. However, the drug has been found to be stable for more than 36 months and shelf life of 36 months has been prescribed in many other countries of the world.
