WINNERS OF 'MINI GAMES' MEET PM


Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has stressed the need to further intensify the efforts of both the government and non-governmental organisations for providing a self-reliant, dignified and productive life to the physically challenged people. He was addressing a delegation of physically challenged children who won medals at ‘Mini-Games Sporting Tournament’ held at Grantham, United Kingdom, from April 26 to April 28, 2002. The winners met the Prime Minister at his residence today.

The Prime Minister praised the achievements of the children for making their country proud in an international event. It is the responsibility of everybody to provide all the necessary opportunities to the physically challenged people to realise their fullest potential, he said. Applauding the role of Sucheta Kriplani, Shiksha Niketan, Manak Lao, Jodhpur, for preparing these students for the challenge of a highly competitive international event, Shri Vajpayee expressed the desire to visit the institution at an appropriate time. He also asked the officials from the Institution to come out with a proposal so that Central Government can provide the required assistance for the upliftment of the physically challenged children. The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of the Shiksha Niketan in the direction of rehabilitating the opium addicts of the area.

The Prime Minister also expressed happiness over the support and assistance provided by the various departments of the Government for enabling the ten-member squad to participate in the tournament. The Prime Minister also witnessed a demonstration of physical activities by the children.

The winners included Master Janak Singh, Master Amar Singh, Master Shaitana Ram Meghwal, Master Prakash Meghwal, Master Prema Ram Chaudhary, Master Rana Ram Chaudhary. The even was organised by Disability Sports, England.

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Subhash Maharia were also present on the occasion.
