TARUN GOGOI DISCUSSES BODO ISSUE WITH HOME MINISTER
The Assam Chief Minister, Shri Tarun
Gogoi had a meeting with the Union Home Minister, Shri L.K. Advani,
here, today. They discussed the progress in finding a solution
to the Bodo issue. The Minister for the Development of North-East
Region, Shri Arun Shourie also participated. Identification of
villages to be included in the proposed BTC and demarcation of
District boundaries were the issues discussed among other related
matters. The State Government of Assam has recommended inclusion
of the proposed BTC under the 6th schedule with some modifications.
It was decided that the process of recommendation regarding details
of the proposed modifications in the Sixth Schedule and identification
of villages, fixing of district boundaries will be expedited in
order to have an early decision. It was also agreed that some
concrete measures to accelerate the development process in the
area and the welfare of the people should be taken as early as
possible. The focus was also on the steps to be taken to ensure
peace in the area and goodwill amongst all sections of the society.
The Secretary, Department of Development of North-East Region,
Dr. P.D. Shenoy and the Special Secretary in the Home Ministry,
Shri A.M. Nimbalkar were also present.
