SALE OF FOODGRAINS AT CHEAPER RATES

As on May 1, 2002 a quantity of 139.03 lakh tonnes of wheat and 142.66 lakh tonnes of paddy ( as on April 29, 2002) conforming to Fair Average Quality specifications has been procured in the country by FCI and State Agencies at Minimum Support Prices.

Adequate number of procurement centres are opened in the market yards/mandis and in production areas in consultation with the State Governments to facilitate farmers to sell their produce conforming to Fair Average Quality specifications. This is being done to prevent distress sale by farmers.
