PURCHASE OF COTTON
No target is fixed
for purchase of cotton from the cotton growing States. To protect
the interests of the cotton growers, Government announces Minimum
Support Price (MSP) for kapas (seed cotton). Whenever the market
prices of kapas touch the MSP level, the Cotton Corporation of
India Ltd. (CCI) undertakes support price operation and pruchases
kapas without any quantitative limit. The quantity of cotton purchased
by the CCI during cotton year 2001-02 (Oct.-Sept.), State-wise,
is as under:-
