RANGANADI HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT SUCCESSFULLY COMMISSIONED

    The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has successfully commissioned all the 3 units of 135 MW each of the 405 MW Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh, largest hydro electric project commissioned in the North East. Two units of 135 MW each were commissioned on 26th and 29th January, 2002 respectively and the 3rd unit on 27th March, 2002. With the commissioning of this project, NEEPCO has achieved its capacity addition target of 654 MW during the IXth plan period and raised its installed capacity to 1105 MW.

    The Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (405 MW) has been executed by NEEPCO with assistance by the North Eastern Council.

    The project comprises of a 68 meter high concrete dam and a water conductor system of length 10.78 kilometers passing through a difficult geological terrain. The diversion dam is located at Yazali on river Ranganadi and the power house is located 29 kilometers away at Hoz on the bank of river Dikrong. The project has been executed under very challenging physical and climatic conditions. When the project was taken up for commissioning the logistics and access were difficult. Annual energy generation of 1876 Gwh would be distributed to the 7 consituent states of the North East in accordance to the formula of sharing of power from Central Sector projects with 12% free power to the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
