INVESTOR EDUCATION PROGRAMME

    A day-long Investor Education Programme , organised jointly by the Department of Company Affairs (DCA) and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) at Hyderabad today, is focusing attention on capital market operations, understanding disclosures, shareholders’ right and protection to guide, educate and help the investors about their rights and redressal of their grievances. This is the first such programme being held under the Investor Education and Protection Fund set up under the Companies Act, 1956 with effect from October 1, 2001. This is also designed to empower investors with adequate information and their rights to create discernible gains in investor education through the involvement of professional institutions.

    The information to be imparted to investors and designed to build confidence among them relate to quality and scope of information available for investors decision making. The programme is also intended to mark the beginning of the journey towards a confident, well-informed and self-assured investor profile to help the nation realise its potential as one of the most vibrant economies of the world.

    Some of the issues that may be deliberated will cover stock markets and debt markets on account of the newer developments and security exchange practices, electronic trading, dematerialisation of shares and depository operations, mutual fund operations and their volatility, the changing profile of financial intermediary services, over the counter-trading and newer developments in the capital and financial markets, germane to a wide spread investor education.
