TRIBUNAL CONFIRMS DECLARATION OF SIMI AS UNLAWFUL ASSOCIATION

    The Central Government declared the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as an Unlawful association under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 on September 27, .2001 as the activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were detrimental to the peace, communal harmony, internal security and maintenance of secular fabric of the Indian Society.

    The Central Government constituted the "Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal" for the purpose of adjudicating whether or not there is sufficient cause for declaring the Students Islamic Movement of India as Unlawful Association, consisting of Mr. Justice S.K. Agarwal, sitting Judge of the Delhi High Court on October 10, 2001.

    The Hon’ble Justice S.K. Agarwal has passed the order on March 26, 2002 wherein it has interalia been held that there is sufficient cause for confirming the notification issued under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Act, declaring SIMI to be an unlawful association and the same is hereby confirmed.
