INDIA AND MAURITIUS TO COOPERATE IN AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY AND REMOTE SENSING

    India and Mauritius today decided to cooperate in the field of Biotechnology and Remote Sensing for Agricultural and other uses. The Minister of Agriculture, Food Technology and Natural Resources of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind K. Jugnauth who called on the Union agriculture Minister, Shri Ajit Singh here today said that Mauritius would greatly benefit from India’s expertise in Biotechnology and Remote Sensing. He also urged Shri Singh to extend training facilities to Students and Scientists of Mauritius in the premier agriculture institutes of India. Mr. Jugnauth also wanted India’s help in Patent legislation. He requested for the renewal of the MoU between India and Mauritius in the field of agriculture that was signed several years ago and had become dysfunctional.

    Shri Ajit Singh said that India has a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna like Mauritius, therefore both can benefit by cooperating to promote eco-tourism. He said that companies from both sides should form joint ventures to produce herbal and medicinal products from herbs and medicinal plants which are abundantly available in both the countries.
