MALAYSIA EXPRESSES INTEREST IN COLACHEL PORT

    Malaysia has evinced a keen interest in the expansion of the Colachel Port in Tamil Nadu. Malaysian Works Minister Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu today called on the Shipping Minister Shri Ved Prakash Goyal. The visiting delegation also expressed interest in the construction of an elevated expressway, in Chennai, which would help in evacuating port traffic faster.

    Shri Goyal explained that Colachel Port is a minor port and is therefore under the jurisdiction of the State Government. However, Centre can help where ever required he added.

    The Minister invited the visitors to participate in the ongoing privatisation programmes in the port sector.

    Shri Goyal was assisted by senior officials of the Ministry. The talks took place in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
