    The US Department of Commerce has imposed anti-dumping and countervailing duties of 72.49 per cent and 12.82 per cent respectively on cut to length carbon steel plate imports from India. The investigations were initiated in February 1999 and the final duties were imposed in February 2000. India sought formal consultations with the US under the dispute settlement mechanism of the WTO which were held on November 21, 2000. At India’s request the Dispute Settlement Body has on July 24,2001, established a panel to examine the issues raised in this dispute. According to the timetable for the panel, the final report would be circulated to WTO members by June 2002.
