LEGISLATION ON MADRASAS

Government is considering for the enactment of a new Legislation to check the receipt and utilization of foreign contributions by madrasas and other organizations. However, no survey has been carried out regarding foreign funding to madrasas in the border areas of the country. The Minister of State for Home Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao told the Lok Sabha that the new Legislation would replace the existing Foreign Contribution (Regulation), 1976, which lacks adequate safeguards to regulate flow and utilization of foreign contributions.

He said there has been a mushrooming growth of madarsas in the country and the ISI is trying to exploit and mislead the students at madrasas.

He said madrasas or any other educational institutes will not be prevented from functioning if they were run under the law of the land but added that if any irregularity came to government’s notice it would take action.
