    Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has achieved the unique distinction of handling 1.5 million TEUs (Twenty foot equivalent units) of containers in the current financial year. It had crossed the million mark last year. This achievement shows that the growth in container traffic handled by the port is 30% over the levels achieved in the last financial year. Of the 1.5 million TEUs, JNPCT accounts for about 6,00,000 TEUs and NSICT (operated by P&O Ports, Australia) for the remaining 9,00,000 TEUs. This is creditable against the backdrop of the global economic slowdown after the September 11^th attack on World Trade Centre, New York.
