RESTRICTION ON LIFTING OF FOODGRAINS

The minimum quantities of wheat and rice to be lifted by exporters from the central pool have been reduced from 25,000 MTs to 10,000 MTs and 5,000 MTs to 2,000 MTs respectively. This would enable small exporters also, to participate in export of foodgrains and is likely to boost exports.

The Government has set up an empowered Standing Committee on Exports under the Chairmanship of the Secretary (Food and Public Distribution). The Committee would meet regularly, interact with exporters and their representative bodies, and take expeditious decisions to resolve their problems related to exports.

This information was given in the Lok Sabha today by the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Ashok Pradhan in a written reply.
