FISCAL IMPLICATION OF ON-GOING OPERATION ALERT

    The assessment of fiscal implications of the on-going mobilization of the Armed Forces on the International Border and Line of Control can be made only after the mobilization is over.

    The local army authorities have been instructed to carry out survey along with local Revenue Authorities to assess the loss of standing crop due mobilization of troops in border areas. The Government of Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir have also been requested to issue necessary instructions to local Revenue Authorities to cooperate with local Army authorities. The farmers will be compensated on the basis of assessed loss to their crops.

    This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake in Lok Sabha today.
