INDIA AND BANGLADESH TO COOPERATE IN INSTALLATION OF BHERAMARA POWER STATION

    India and Bangladesh have decided to cooperate in the installation of a power station at Bheramara in Bangladesh. This follows detailed discussions between the Minister of Power, Shri Suresh Prabhu and the visiting Minister of State for Power of Bangladesh, Mr. Iqbal H. Mahmood here yesterday, on possible future cooperation between the two countries. Other areas identified for cooperation include rural electrification, joint studies on power exchange, lowering of transmission and distribution lossess, energy conservation and other related areas in the electricity sector.

    Shri Prabhu also offered his Ministry’s co-operation in conducting training programmes for power sector personnel from Bangladesh in specialised institutions in India like the Power Management Institute (PMI). The two Ministers also discussed the possibility of constituting a Working Group to identify specific projects, which can be taken-up for cooperation between the two countries.

    Mr. Iqbal H. Mahmood is on an official visit to India from March 5th to 9th. The visit is taking place in response to an invitation extended to him by Shri Prabhu.
