SERICULTURE DEVELOPMENT PLAN DRAWN UP BY CENTRAL SILK BOARD
The estimated production of raw silk in the country during 2001-2002 is 17980 MT. Contribution of Karnataka is essential to be 8754 MT.
The strategy for Sericulture sector for the Xth five year Plan drawn up by the Central Silk Board in consultation with the State Governments including Karnataka, aims to substantially expand bivoltine mulberry silk production and improve production of non-mulberry silk varieties by assisting and supporting quality and productivity of silk, by the adoption of new technologies in rearing & reeling, improved on-farm infrastructure, certified seed supplies and seed supply systems, improved & liberalized marketing system etc. Programmes for Research & Development, transfer of technology and provision of critical inputs to States have been emphasized.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Textiles, Shri V. Dhananjaya Kumar in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
