RS. 339.86 CRORE TURNOVER FOR CWC DURING 2000-01

    The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has achieved the highest ever turnover of Rs. 339.86 crore during the year 2000-01 as against Rs. 276.34 crore in the previous year. According to the Annual Report of the Corporation for the year 2000-01, the profits for the year registered an increase of 52 per cent over that of the previous year. The profit for the report period was Rs. 73.33 crore as against 48.3 crore during 1999-2000.

    As on March 31, 2001 the Corporation operated 466 warehouses with a total capacity of 83.91 lakh tonnes including a hired capacity of 16.82 lakh tonnes. The cpacity of CWC as on the same date during 1999-2000 was 74.79 lakh tonnes including a hired capacity of 14.33 lakh tonnes. The average capacity utilisation during the period under review was 78.98 lakh tonnes as against 73.98 lakh tonnes in 1999-2000. The Corporation has been able to complete construction of 2.01 lakh metric tonne capacity godowns during the year under review. In addition, CAP (Cover and Plinth) storage to the extent of 4.06 lakh MT was added. Besides 230.96 acres of land was procured by the Corporation at various places in the country for construction of godowns.

    The total investment of CWC in the equity capital of 16 State Warehousing Corporations (SWCs) stood at Rs. 53.83 crore as on March 31 last year. The total income received by the Corporation as dividend from the SWCs during the year was 4. 31 crore. The total storage capacity both owned and hired by SWCs was 149.05 lakh tonnes as on March 31, 2001.
