SMT. SWARAJ LAUNCHES WOMEN’S I.T. LITERACY PROGRAMME

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj launched here today the month-long I.T. Literacy Programme for Women named "Swift Jyoti" organised by the Computer Training Company, NIIT as a part of International Women Empowerment Year. Smt. Swaraj said that women must change their mindset and come out of their hesitation to take computer application in a big way. Smt. Swaraj also flagged off a signature campaign for women I.T. literacy and enrolled herself as a first woman trainee in the programme.

The Management Director of NIIT, Shri Rajinder Pawar said that the biggest challenge faced by India is gender divide which can be addressed by bridging digital divide since I.T. is perhaps the only field where both men and women compete on equal footing. The NIIT would train 20,000 girl students and teachers free of cost under the programme, he said.
