MORE THAN 6500 DDA HOUSES ALLOTTED

Home Minister Shri L. K. Advani has underlined the need for eradicating the scourge of corruption in the administration of public services. Giving the possession letters to the registrants of DDA (Delhi Development Authority) flats here today, Shri Advani said that if persons occupying high offices scrupulously observe the path of honesty while discharching their responsibilities and duties, it would also inspire and motivate others to do the same.

Shri Advani further stated that if we could ensure employment for all and water for all fields, then nobody would be able to stop our progress. Two of the massive projects have been undertaken by the government to connect various parts of the country by a large network of roads and to provide housing for all by the year 2010. These projects would not only provide connectivity and shelters to the people, but would also ensure employment for a large number of people, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri Ananth Kumar said that the backlog of houses to be given by the DDA to the wait-listed allottees is expected to be cleared by the year 2004. The Minister said that in order to reach the allottee in a speedy and satisfactory manner, DDA has started organizing ‘Housing Melas’. Last year, DDA has allotted about 5000 houses in the Housing Mela and today, about 6500 houses would be given to the allottees.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Shri Bandaru Dattatraya said that DDA is constructing a large number of houses under the Valmiki – Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) in Delhi with the objective of providing shelter or upgrading the existing shelter for people living below the poverty line in the slums.

In his welcome address, Lt. Governor of Delhi Shri Vijay Kapoor said that Dwarka would be connected with various parts of Delhi through roads and rail network, thus enabling the residents of Dwarka to realise their true potential.
