NETWORKING OF DEPARTMENT
OF JUSTICE WITH COURTS AND LAW DEPARTMENTS OF STATES
The Government in the Department of Justice of the Ministry of
Law, Justice and Company Affairs, has taken up computerized networking
of the Department with the Supreme Court, all High Courts and
Law Departments of State Governments at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs.
This will enable the Department of Justice to get online access
to the detailed data relating to pendency of cases maintained
by the High Courts and the Supreme Court. Besides, up-to-date
data relating to vacancies of posts of judges will become available
online. At present, this data is obtained through various reports,
which have to be re-entered into the computers for preparation
of periodic reports relating to monitoring of pendency of cases.
The online connectivity will reduce the need for fresh date entry
in the Department of Justice. Easy access of detailed information
will help in better monitoring of pendencies. It will also help
the Law Commission of India and various other bodies engaged in
judicial reforms get access to detailed data relating to pendencies
of various category of cases in various courts.
