KISCO'S MAIDEN EXPORT OF PIG IRON
The new joint
venture company Kudremukh Iron & Steel Company Ltd. (KISCO),
established by the joint collaboration of Kudremukh Iron Ore Company
Ltd. (KIOCL), Metallurgical and Engineering Consultants (India)
Ltd. (MECON) and Metal Scrap Trading Corporation (MSTC), had finalised
its maiden export order in March 2002 for basic grade Pig Iron
with M/s PRIMETRADE AG, Switzerland which is globally one of the
leaders in the trading of pig iron. The vessel mv PENDRECHT sailed
out of the Mangalore Port on June 9, carrying 31,430 tonnes of
Pig Iron to a premier Steel maker group M/s Mega steel Sdn Bhd,
Selangor situated at Port Klang, Malaysia.
The Company
was formed to manufacture low sulpher and low phosphorous pig
iron and Ductile iron spun pipes at Mangalore. The Blast furnace
was blown in on January 28, 2001 and commercial production commenced
from May 18, 2001. The production of 21460 tonnes of pig iron
and 300 tonnes of auxiliary products upto May 15, 2001 were despatched
by June 2001.
