RECOGNITION TO INDIAN SHORT FILMS WELCOMED

The recent selection of two films in the competition section of the official categories of the Cannes Film Festival has been a source of great satisfaction in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The two films were: Khoj by Shri Tridib Poddar in the Cinefondation Section and "A Very Very Silent Film" by Shri Manish Jha which was selected in the short-film competition. The Cinefondation section showcases talent from film schools.

It is a matter of pride for India that "A Very Very Silent Film" by Shri Manish Jha won the Prix-du-Jury award in the short competition section, particularly as this is the young film maker’s first film. It is hoped that such exposure in prestigious international film festivals will encourage young film makers from India to further excel. This exposure as also the award come as recognition of the high caliber of film-making and creativity that exist in India. The fact that these developments are coming side by side with the push being provided to corporatisation of the film industry is a source of great satisfaction within the Government.
