STATUS OF VACANCIES IN HIGH COURTS


There are 155 vacancies of judges out of a total sanctioned strength of 647 judges in High Courts as on date. Of these, there are 44 vacancies in Allahabad High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 95 judges, followed by 14 vacancies out of a sanctioned strength of 40 judges in Punjab and Haryana High Court, 11 vacancies in Madras High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 42 judges, 9 vacancies in Gujarat High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 42 judges, 6 vacancies in Patna High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 27 judges, 4 vacancies in Gauhati High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 19 judges, 4 vacancies in Uttaranchal High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 7 judges, 3 vacancies in Chhattisgarh High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 6 judges and 2 vacancies in Sikkim High Court out of a sanctioned strength of 3 judges.

The percentage of vacancies to the sanctioned posts of judges is 66 per cent in Sikkim High Court followed by 57 per cent in Uttaranchal High Court, 50 per cent in Chhattisgarh High Court, 46 per cent in Allahabad High Court, 35 per cent in Punjab and Haryana High Court, 26 per cent each in Patna and Madras High Courts, and 21 per cent each in Gauhati and Gujarat High Courts. The average of total vacancies comes to 24 per cent.
