GODOWN FACILITY IN STATES

During the 10th Five Year Plan (2002-07), the Food Corporation of India (FCI) proposes to construct a storage capacity of 6.42 lakh MT all over the country with a financial outlay of Rs. 185.46 crore.

During the 10th Five Year Plan, the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) proposes to construct a storage capacity of 15 lakh MT all over the country with a financial outlay of Rs. 473.50 crore.

In addition to the above, various State Warehousing Corporation (SWCs) propose to create additional storage capacity of 85.47 lakh MT under the 7-Years’ Guarantee Scheme of FCI in the major procuring States. Further, under the National Policy of Handling, Storage & Transportation of foodgrains, 5.71 lakh MT capacity is proposed to be created in different States on Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis through private sector participation.

FCI and CWC have been directed to spend 10% of the total Budget allocation for construction of godowns in the North-Eastern States including Sikkim.
