SETTING UP OF ELECTRONIC
COURTS
The National Informatics
Centre (NIC) has taken up upgradation of the existing hardware
and software tools at the Supreme Court with new applications
of Management Information System, Public Interface System and
Electronic Courts at a cost of Rs. 4.6 crores in the first phase
of the project. The new changes including E-Courts have been planned
to be introduced shortly in the apex court.
The first phase of
the project includes creation of two court rooms as Electronic
Courts. The second phase will include newly identified applications
such as creation of additional E-Courts to be completed within
six months of the completion of first phase.
The upgradation of
the computerization of the Supreme Court follows the direction
of the then Chief Justice of India in the year 2000 asking the
NIC to submit a project report to this effect.
