STORAGE OF FOODGRAINS
RAJYA SABHA
In July’ 2000, the
Government of India announced National Policy on handling, storage
and transportation of foodgrains . This Policy envisages private
sector participation in management of foodgrains under Build-Own-Operate
(BOO) scheme by development of bulk foodgrains handling, storage
and transportation.
Storage of foodgrains
is done by different agencies viz., the Food Corporation of India,
the Central Warehousing Corporation and State Warehousing Corporation.
While FCI has a storage capacity of 151.59 lakh tonnes, that of
CWC and State Warehousing Corporation are 74.59 lakh tonnes and
134.46 lakh tonnes respectively.

of State for Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, in
reply to a question of Shri Khan Ghufran Zahidi.
