DECIDES TO CONTINUE THE DEFERMENT OF BAN ON BLT
The Government of India has decided to continue the deferment
of ban on BLT under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,
1967 for a period of six months beyond July 21, 2002. The suspension
of operations by the security forces against BLT will remain in
operation during this period. The agreement was reached at a Tripartite
meeting in New Delhi, today.
Shri A.M. Nimbalkar, Special Secretary (NE), Ministry of Home
Affairs, Government of India conducted the 17th round
of Tripartite negotiations involving the Government of India,
the Government of Assam and the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) of
Assam.
The tripartite meeting took stock of the progress made towards
an amicable resolution of the issues relating to the Bodo dominated
areas of Assam. The participants hope that a mutually acceptable
socio-economic package will be shortly worked out following consultations
at both the Central and the State level and the concerned groups
residing in the Bodo areas.
The talks took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual
trust.
