M. SHANKAR
TAKES OVER AS URBAN DEVELOPMENT SECRETARY
Shri M. Shankar has assumed
the charge of Secretary, Department of Urban Development, Ministry
of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, here today. Shri
Shankar belongs to the 1967 batch of Indian Administrative Service
(Haryana cadre). Shri Shankar was earlier posted as the Secretary
of the Department of Official Languages.
Having worked in the urban development
sector for more than 16 years in various capacities, Shri Shankar
was instrumental in setting up Haryana Urban Development Authority
(HUDA) as its first Chief Administrator in 1976. He has also worked
in the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad and, later, he became
Director, Town and Country Planning, and Director, Urban Estate,
Government of Haryana. Shri Shankar moved to the Ministry of Urban
Development, Government of India, in 1980 and worked in the Ministry
for six years as Director and Joint Secretary.
Shri Shankar has attended two training
courses – one in Japan on local administration and another in
Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College,
London, on metropolitan development.
