INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS MANUFACTURING NUCLEAR FUEL, HEAVY WATER AND ATOMIC ENERGY TO CONTINUE AS PUBLIC UTILITY SERVICE FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS

    The Services in the industrial establishments manufacturing or producing Nuclear Fuel and Components, Heavy Water And Allied Chemicals and Atomic Energy will continue to be public utility service for another six months with effect from 26th February 2002. The services in these establishments were declared a public utility service under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 for six months from 26th August, 2001. The Labour Ministry in a notification issued here said that this has been done in the public interest.

    The employees in these establishments, as a result, would among other things be required to give notice to their employer six weeks in advance of proceeding on strike so that conciliatory proceedings could be started. During the conciliatory proceedings and seven days after their completion, the employees cannot go on strike in these establishments.
