INVOLVEMENT OF WOMEN, TRIBAL/RURAL YOUTHS IN SPORTS
Government of India is implementing the following schemes to enhance the
participation of women, tribal youth and Rural Youth in games: -
Rural Sports Programme: Under this scheme, Rural Sports tournaments are organised in the
disciplines of Athletics, Tug of war, Archery, Hockey, Kho-kho, Kabbadi, Weightlifting,
Volley Ball, Wrestling, Football (Boys only) at Block, District State and National Level
involving women, tribal youth and rural youth.
Besides, in order to broad-base sports and games in the North-East region, North-East
Sports Festival is organized every year there.
Sports Festival for Women: Under the scheme Block, District, State and National level
sports competitions are organized involving women sportspersons.
