REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2001 REFERRED TO PARLIAMENTARY STANDING COMMITTEE
The Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2001, which seeks to make provisions for doing away the requirement of residence in a State or Union Territory for contesting elections to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from that State or Union Territory, and introduction of the system of open ballot instead of secret ballot for elections to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) has been referred to the Department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs for examination and report.
The Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by the Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs Shri Arun Jaitley on Decmber 5, 2001.
