PROCEDURE FOR AVAILING TARIFF RATE QUOTA FOR IMPORT OF SKIMMED MILK POWDER ETC. NOTIFIED - PRESS NOTE

   The government has issued a public notice, detailing the procedure for availment of Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ)* for import of (1) Skimmed and whole milk powder, milk food for babies etc. (0402.10 or 0402.21); (2) Maize (corn), other (1005.90); (3) Crude sunflower seed or safflower oil or fractions thereof (1512.11) and (4) Refined rape, colza or mustard oil, other (1514.90). The quantities and applicable concessional duty on import of these shall be in accordance with the various customs notifications issued in this regard. The public notice No.62 dated 22nd January, 2002 is available at the website of Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) at the address http://www.nic.in/eximpol The public notice indicates the eligible entities for such imports and the procedure for allocation of these concessional duty imports. All the imports have to be completed by 31/03/2002. The application to the DGFT by the eligible entities must be made so as to reach the DGFT by 11/02/2002. Thereafter, the Exim Facilitation Committee in the DGFT shall make the allocation of the quota.

* Definition of Tariff Rate Quota– Trading mechanism that provides for the application of a customs duty at a certain rate to imports of a particular good up to a specified quantity (in quota quantity) and at a different rate to imports of that good that exceed that quantity.
