MOU SIGNED BY HUDCO AND MCD FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CIVIC CENTRE IN DELHI

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed here today by the Chairman and Managing Director, HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation), Shri V. Suresh and Commissioner, MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi), Shri S.P. Agrawal for construction of MCD Civic Centre. The MOU was signed in the presence of the Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri Ananth Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Ananth Kumar said that the Civic Centre, costing approximately Rs.100 crore, financed by HUDCO, would be constructed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), an undertaking of the Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation. He stated that the construction work would begin shortly and would be over in about two years.

The Minister further pointed out that the construction of the Centre would be a self-sustaining, economically viable project as this would not only house MCD offices but would provide for other facilities.

The complex, designed as an ultra-modern, state of art building, incorporates the latest available technology to make it into an intelligent building complex in order to conserve energy and other resources like water, electricity etc.

The proposed civic center comprises of several inter-connected building blocks of varying heights placed around a large central landscape plaza. The central block is the tallest and has 24 floors, however, the peripheral smaller blocks are only 6 floors high.

The Civic Centre designed as an integrated complex at plaza level, however, is divided equally into two distinct components – first one consists of Deliberative Wing and offices of MCD and the second one comprises of offices space for commercial use and a large cultural wing which consists of an Auditorium, Banquet Hall, Health Club, Restaurants, Banks etc. etc. for HUDCO.
