RSP PIPES FOR NORTHERN COALFIELDS AND ASSAM GAS

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has successfully completed production of a prestigious order of 787 tonnes of ERW pipes for Northern Coalfields. The order for IS:3589-EE 410 grade pipes with 12.07" diameter, 9.5 mm thickness and a total length of 11 kms was bagged by RSP against stiff competition. The pipes will be used to transport water and slurry in the coalfields. The pipes are being despatched to the customer by road.

Meanwhile, the plant is also despatching another order of ERW pipes to Assam Gas by rail. The order for 3,705 tonnes of 16" outer diameter and 7.1 grade B pipes is valued at RS.7.2 crore. This pipe order of 53-km length will be used for transporting gas. Processing of 600 tonnes of pipes of the same grade for different customers is also presently on.

A massive upgradation programme for the ERW Pipe Plant is in the pipeline. All the equipment of the plant will be modified and upgraded so as to meet the stringent specifications of customers. After upgradation, the ERW Pipe Plant will be able to produce API++ grade of pipes which will give a major fillip to RSP’s product line.
